Phillip L. Lundblad, 82, of Columbia City, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health for the past year.
He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Whitley County, a son of Harold L. and C. Fern (Coolman) Lundblad. A lifelong resident of Columbia City, he graduated from Columbia City High School in 1949.
On Jan. 19, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged Jan. 13, 1953.
On June 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Linda D. Kitson. They moved to their present home in 1972.
He was employed at Whitley Products and retired from the Columbia City Post Office in 1993 with 40 years of service.
His church affiliation was with Sugar Creek Church of the Nazarene and he was a member of American Legion Post #98.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Linda; three children, Jackie (Jeff) Norris of Grand Rapids, Mich., Gary L. (Marla) Lundblad of Larwill and Roger (Tabitha) Lundblad of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother and a sister, H. Keith Lundblad and Joyce Johnson, both of Whitley County.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Sue McDaniel and a sister, Anita Grumpp.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with military honors presented at the funeral home following the service. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
