PIERCETON — Eric Speicher, Pierceton Elementary School’s principal, will be overseeing Syracuse Elementary School in the fall.

Effective June 30, Speicher’s role with Whitko Community School Corporation will come to an end, a bittersweet change for Speicher.

“I never imagined I would fall in love with this place so quickly,” Speicher said. “I love it here. In some ways it’s killing me to leave.”

Speicher just finished his second year at PES and took the opportunity to move to Syracuse due in part to the history he has there.

“I was a teacher there before,” Speicher said. “It’s my home area and where I am from. I guess it’s kind of like coming back home.”

Working at PES, Speicher propelled academic growth and achievement for the school. At Monday’s school board meeting, Speicher offered his official farewell and thanked the board for “taking a chance on a new principal.”
