POINT-COUNTERPOINT: Public hearing tonight on wind issue

COLUMBIA CITY — At last month’s meeting of the Whitley County Plan Commission, President Brandon Forrester stated very matter-of-factly regarding the ongoing wind issue, “Our recommendation to the commissioners will not make everyone happy; there is no way to do that with a topic of this magnitude.”Tonight, both happy and unhappy parties alike will get an opportunity to speak their mind at the public hearing being held during the commission’s meeting, set for a special time and place of 6 p.m. at the 4-H Center. The issue – which is an ordinance change rather than an approval for or against wind farms — has been a nearly two year ongoing project. In that time, a wind committee was formed for fact-finding, research and reporting from both sides to the commission.Through discussions, drafts of the ordinance revision were formulated and re-formulated.Whichever way the wind blows on the decision for an ordinance change, the public will certainly get its chance to voice its opinion.
