PIERCETON — Local sheriff’s deputies worked in concert with deputies from Kosciusko County as well as troopers from the Indiana State Police to arrest a Pierceton man wanted for theft and burglary.
According to Chad Hill, public information officer for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, police in that county were contacted by Whitley County deputies Monday evening to help assist in the execution of an active arrest warrant for Jeremiah Smith, 26, of Pierceton.
According to a press release from Hill, Whitley and Kosciusko county deputies, along with two ISP troopers from the Fort Wayne District surrounded a mobile home in Pierceton located along U.S. 30.
“Officers attempted to knock on the doors of the residence several times with no response,” said Hill.
“Officers noticed individuals moving inside through windows and again advised the subjects to open the door.”
Hill reported that when occupants didn’t comply, warrants were obtained.
He reported that police then “used their squad car (public address) system to advise the occupants to open the door to the residence. With no response, Whitley County deputies then gained entry with the assistance of ISP into the mobile home trailer. “
Hill said police located two females inside the residence, along with Smith hiding in a rear bedroom.
Smith was taken into custody without incident and arrested on the original Whitley County warrant for possession of stolen property, Hill reported.
According to booking records at Whitley County, Smith was booked for theft and burglary and is being held on $50,000 bond.
Smith was scheduled for court in Whitley County Circuit Court Tuesday for an initial hearing.
