COLUMBIA CITY — There was no shortage of suggestions at last night’s aquatics facility public forum.
Since the announcement of Burnworth Memorial Pool closing in 2014, a task force has been working on a replacement for the public pool option.
Kevin Post, of Counsilman-Hunsaker, led the forum with his expertise on facility design and execution.
“The typical pool has a life of 30 to 50 years. Burnworth Pool is out of that life expectancy. It is definitely time to look at another aquatics option,” Post said. “But the idea of what a pool is has evolved over the years.”
Aquatics facilities now encompass water slides with various height requirements, wave technology, zero-depth entry and moving water elements.
“Pools are now more than just square bodies of water,” said Post. “It serves a social need. It is a place that serves the entire family.”
Post shared concepts that would encompass competition elements as well as recreational opportunities and instructional components.
