POOL GRANT: Col. City parks receive funds for study

April 15, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City Parks and Recreation Department Director Mark Green announced that the City of Columbia City has received a grant for $15,000 from the Dekko Foundation toward a study for an Aquatics Facility.
“We are thankful for partners like the Dekko Foundation who understand the value of planning and providing recreational activities for children and adults,” said Green.

After a financial report showing repairs in excess of $1 million needed for Burnworth Pool, the Columbia City Park Board made a decision to form an Aquatics Facility Task Force.

Concurrently, the board also determined that 2014 will be the final season for the more than 50-year-old community pool. The task force had met multiple times this year, determining that there was a need to study the feasibility of a facility.

The study will look at what type of facility and amenities the community could support financially, as well as location and partnership opportunities.
“This is a great way to know the next steps in the process and give the Task Force a direction on where to go," Green said. The study is scheduled to be finished this fall.
