LARWILL ‚ÄĒ With the U.S. Postal Service proposing sharp cutbacks to hours of operation, more than 13,000 post offices across the country may experience changes to office hours in the future. For Whitley County, this could mean changes at the post office in Larwill.
‚ÄúThe plan last year was that we had 3,700 post offices under review for possible closure,‚ÄĚ said spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service Mary Dando.
‚ÄúThe strategy that was announced last week was that we keep them open.‚ÄĚ
Currently, the Larwill post office is open eight hours a day, but the change would cut it back to four hours a day.
Some post offices in the state are proposed to experience cutbacks from eight to two hours a day.
‚ÄúThis is a two-year multi-phase plan to be completed by September,2014,‚ÄĚ said Dando. ‚ÄúThe first step will be going back to the communities with the plan.‚ÄĚ
