Powering playtime

February 9, 2014

The Whitley County YMCA was used as a warming station Friday after a power outage left more than 8,000 Whitley County residents without electricity. “We haven’t had a lot of people coming in to get warm,” said Erica Miller, director of the YMCA. “Most people have been coming in to take a shower before going to work.” Pictured is Chance Krepps, 19 month old son of Dakota Krepps and Kayla Norris, who was brought into the YMCA Friday morning to get warm. He also found a little fun with a ball in the gymnasium. His family’s home, in Tri Lakes, was without power. Other warming stations included Columbia City’s City Hall and the Whitley County Government Center.
