PRIESTLY: Sigler has smooth first year at St. Paul

September 13, 2013

Father Sigler

COLUMBIA CITY — St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church is everything Father Gary expected it to be.

Sigler, who has been with the church for more than a year, said he always thought St. Paul would be a wonderful place to be.

"I used to tell people if I could have any parish in the diocese, it would be St. Paul of the Cross in Columbia City," Sigler said. "So when the Bishop offered it to me, I was just amazed because it was the parish I've always wanted."

Sigler said St. Paul was his church of choice because of the community and size of the parish.

"Before I became the priest here, I knew the parish and had visited a number of times," Sigler said.

Sigler was at the church 28 years ago when it was built, and was even around for moral support after a wind storm brought down the rafters, when Father Bill Schooler was the priest.

A year into his time at St. Paul, Sigler said it has been everything he expected it to be.
