COLUMBIA CITY â Columbia Cityâs Park Board reversed its decision to close the sledding hill at DeVol Field after an outcry from the public.
More than 30 people were present at a public hearing Thursday, with nine taking the podium to voice their opinions â all in favor of reopening the hill.
Before the public spoke, the city explained its reasoning for closing the park, a decision made on a 3-2 vote at last weekâs Park Board meeting based on liability and safety.
âThe Park Board was rightly concerned about the liability,â Columbia City Attorney Marcia McNagny said. âI want to protect the citizens and protect the city. I understand the sentimental value â we want to have a place for kids to go have fun.â
