COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s Park Board reversed its decision to close the sledding hill at DeVol Field after an outcry from the public.
More than 30 people were present at a public hearing Thursday, with nine taking the podium to voice their opinions â€” all in favor of reopening the hill.
Before the public spoke, the city explained its reasoning for closing the park, a decision made on a 3-2 vote at last weekâ€™s Park Board meeting based on liability and safety.
â€śThe Park Board was rightly concerned about the liability,â€ť Columbia City Attorney Marcia McNagny said. â€śI want to protect the citizens and protect the city. I understand the sentimental value â€” we want to have a place for kids to go have fun.â€ť
