RAINY DAY REMEDY: Fund to cover flood damage

March 9, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — A Friday afternoon phone call answered by Whitley County Commissioner Don Amber led to an expense of more than $23,000.

Piling snow and heavy rains caused a flood in the basement of the Whitley County Government Center Feb. 21.

Wet carpet was found in a basement meeting room, but the source of water was unable to be located at the time.

By Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, Amber was on the scene only to find the source of the water came from a faulty sump pump.
