COLUMBIA CITY — Last year, Whitley County saw the formation of an autism support group, and families joined together to raise awareness and funds for the group through a one-mile walk.
Now, the Whitley County Autism Support Group is hosting the walk for a second year, and the event’s organizers are hoping for more community involvement.
The Whitley County Walk for Autism will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Whitley County YMCA, 950 E. Van Buren St. in Columbia City.
Registration for the walk is $15 and includes a T-shirt. However the event will include games, prizes, snacks and information from local service providers at no charge.
“This is going to be fun family event that is practically free,” said Jamie Bloom, the event’s coordinator. “People are encouraged to come and be a part of the event even if they don’t want to walk. It’s a fun atmosphere. There will be a lot of kid-friendly activities.”
After last year’s walk, the group was able to organize several activities for families living with autism.
