Ralph Earl Galway, 89, of Columbia City, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010 at the home of his daughter in Columbia City (Big Lake). Born Oct. 29, 1921 in Marion, he was a son of the late Ralph I. and Mattie M (Iliff) Galway.
A graduate of Marion High School, he then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Air Force where he served for 22 years. Born and raised in Marion, he lived there the majority of his life except while in the service. In 2003 he moved to Columbia City to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Donald) Law and Sharon (Robert) Stephens of Columbia City and Barbara Galway of Huntington; a son, Ronald (Vanessa) Galway of Union City; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Floyd Galway of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his beloved cat, Blackie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service will be held at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Mr. Galwayâ€™s name be made to the Whitley County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City.
