Recap: Lady Eagles end season on high note

February 25, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — One tournament made all the difference in Columbia City’s girls basketball’s season.

The Lady Eagles had been struggling with a nine-game losing streak, a difficult 2-12 record and several competitive losses in the first part of their season.

Columbia City competed in the two-day, Northridge Holiday tournament in late December — and that’s when the tables turned.

Columbia City topped Concord by a 58-38 score. Head coach Amy Shearer said the win was more than a “w” on the record book.

“That was a good team-building win,” Shearer said. “We all started focusing on the team and we began playing for each other.”

Shearer said one of the improvements came from junior Emily Whiteleather, who made the Northeast Hoosier Conference’s 1st-Team All-Conference.
