RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Black walnut cookies

Black Walnut Cookies
3/4 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1/3 c. evaporated milk

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, then nuts and vanilla. Stir well. Fold in flour, salt and soda which have been sifted together, alternately with milk. Beat vigorously. Drop by teaspoon on greased baking sheet. Bake in hot oven 400 degrees until light brown.
