COLUMBIA CITY — Ten 4-Hers stood before the 4-H Board Inc., and asked the panel to sponsor them at various camps and conferences.
Katie Barnett, Danielle Oliver, Rebecca Lily, Sarah Palmer, Jared Lamle, April Gibson, Lori Peterson, Ben Western, Laura Kneller and David Peterson all asked for assistance to attend the Junior Leadership Conference. Lily also asked for assistance to attend the Animal Science Workshop. David Peterson additionally asked to attend a goat conference.
The board will honor those requests if funds are available and will notify the 4-Hers.
Rhonda Shrove spoke to the board about continuing to be the co-chairperson for the 4-H Fun Night.
“I want to be involved again,” said Shrove.
Cathy Heritier, president of 4-H Inc., assured her they always like volunteers and the board granted her request.
Lynette Bridegam, of the Whitley County Goat Club, spoke of her concerns for more lights in and around the goat barn.
“The Goat Club is willing to pay $100 towards a licensed electrician and a member’s grandfather is donating his labor to install the lights,” said Bridegam.
“We are also concerned with a ground-wide public address system. There is no way to communicate between the small animal show barn and the barns. We tried to use two-way radios but that didn’t work. We received a quote but it would be above the ground labor. We’d need $490 for a bucket truck,” said Bridegam.
The board approved her request for the electrician barring all permits and inspections be submitted to the board.
Jason Holzinger donated $400 which was his prize he won for being a top salesman at his work.
In the 4-H Fair marketing report Chad Nix requested the other board members who are selling sponsorships at the fair to let him know in order to prevent double selling.
“We currently have two chute sponsors and we need two more,” said Nix.
Eight demolition derby drivers attended the roll cage meeting at the Extension office recently. The fair currently has 12 drivers and six cars lined up.
Nix reported an ice cream machine has been purchased for the north concession stand.
Heritier reminded the board the fair still needs a food safety handler. If anyone in the community is interested in this position call the Extension Office at 244-7615 or 625-3313. The permit is good for five years.
The Whitley County 4-H Fair is July 13 to 19. The Indiana State Fair is Aug. 3 to 19.
