REROUTING HEAVY TRAFFIC: Bridge almost complete, another closing

February 24, 2012

Work is almost completed on the bridge on CR 100 S.

COLUMBIA CITY — A heavily-used roadway in Whitley County will be closing soon for what is believed to be a 10-week period, according to Whitley County Engineer Brandon Forrester. “That is the current estimate. Ten weeks is weather permitting, of course,” said Forrester.

A stretch of Business 30 East between United Oil and the Gateway East Industrial Park will be shut down beginning March 5 while the bridge passing over Eel River is reconstructed. Detour signs will be put up next week to warn commuters of the upcoming closure.

Posted detour routes will include Ind. 205, Ind. 9 and U.S. 30.

Forrester said prior to the project beginning, the bridge currently closed on CR 100 S for construction will be completed and back open, which will provide another route for traffic.

A road closure update and link to the detour plan can be found at the Engineer and Surveyor department section on the county website at
