Richard Burman, 66
Richard C. Burman, 66, of rural Columbia City, died at 7:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at his home. He had been in failing health since June.He was born Nov. 22, 1943 in Huntington, a son of William and Mary (Harper) Burman. His formative years were spent in Huntington and he was a graduate of Huntington High School.He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard.On Oct. 15, 1982 he was united in marriage to Nancy J. Myers. They made their home in Fort Wayne for eight years before moving to Indianapolis where they spent the past 20 years until July 3 when they moved to their home south of Columbia City.He retired in December 2003 from Navistar Foundry, Indianapolis with 20 years of service. He worked at International Harvester, Fort Wayne for seven years.Surviving relatives include his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Angela (Phillip) Carroll of Churubusco; a son, Brian (Aimee) Burman of Kennesaw, Ga.; two stepsons, Kurt Gressley of Belle Chase, La. and Greg (Lissa) Gressley of Columbia City; and a stepdaughter, Melissa (Matt) Jenkins of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; a brother, William “Billie” Burman of Westfield; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Townsend and Marilyn Allred, both of Texas.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Burman.There will be no visitation or service.Arrangements are being completed at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.Condolences may be sent to: www.smithandsonsfuneralhome.com.
