LARWILL — One man was arrested in Larwill Sunday evening after an employee at the Larwill Deli reported a suspicious van outside the convenience store.
The employee reported a white van without a license plate that was suspiciously driving around the store. After the witness saw a man begin to put on what was reportedly a face mask, she called the police, locked the doors and hid in the back of the deli.
“The attendant was really sharp,” Whitley County Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Vogley said. “She saw something wasn’t right.”
Though the Sheriff’s Department never found a mask, Vogley said the group had hooded sweatshirts.
“The intent was to rob the place,” Vogley said. “They were arguing about who was going to do it when officers arrived.”
Police detained three suspects from the van and arrested one of those men, Michael R. Frankhart, 29, of Markle.
Frankhart was a previous Whitley County resident.
Police found a nine millimeter handgun in the vehicle and none of the occupants had a permit.
Though no armed robbery charges were filed Frankhart was booked on three charges.
Frankhart was charged with driving while suspended, possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.
