Robert B. Elliott, Sr., 96

Robert B. Elliott, Sr., 96, a lifelong resident of Larwill, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born Dec. 13, 1913 in Larwill, a son of Bonnell and Lucy (Marchand) Elliott. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1931.

He operated the Elliott Service Station in Larwill from 1932 until 1981.
On Oct. 28, 1939 he was united in marriage to Esther Reeg. Mrs. Elliott died Aug. 25, 1984.

In Sept. 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged Jan. 24, 1946.

He served on the Larwill Town Board from 1948 until 1952; was a member of the Larwill Fire Department for 35 years, serving a term as fire chief; was a member of American Legion Post 98 for 64 years; and was attending the Troy Presbyterian Church and Larwill Wesleyan Church.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Roberta J. (Thomas) Main-Jackson of Indianapolis; two sons, Robert B. Elliott Jr. of Larwill and Randall J. (Angela) Elliott of Leo-Cedarville; two granddaughters, Jocelin (Antonio) Romero of Indianapolis and Courtney Romero of Miami Beach, Fla.; a great-grandson, Cesar Romero-Uribe; and a brother, Richard (Mary) Elliott of South Beloit, Ill.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Stanley B. Elliott and Stephen B. Elliott.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Troy Presbyterian Church or Larwill Wesleyan Church.
