Robert A. â€śBobâ€ť Sandager, 73, of Goose Lake, died at 11:14 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital. He had been in failing health.
He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minn., a son of Jerome Walter and Ethel Edna (Hodgman) Sandager. His formative years were spent in the Minneapolis area where he graduated from high school.
At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Alaska and two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
He began working for Tropicana Orange Juice Factory in Bradenton, Fla. in 1969, retiring in 1986.
On May 8, 2008, he married Melissa K. Craig. They have always made their home at Goose Lake.
A disabled veteran, he was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of American Legion Post #98. He was an avid bingo player.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Melissa; two children, Robin (Wendy) Sandager of Columbia City and Candy (Jerry) Price of South Carolina; a stepdaughter, Crystal (Lynn) Pressler of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Jerome Jr., Norman, Jack, Mike, Steve and Bill, all of Minnesota; two sisters, Linda and Janet, both of Minnesota; his father-in-law, Bennie Craig of Columbia City and grandmother-in-law, Helen L. Schneider of Columbia City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donny Sandager; a brother, Jimmy and a sister, Carol.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, July 28 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with the receiving of friends after 11 a.m.
