Robert L. von Holdt, 84, of Columbia City, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at The Oaks, Columbia City.
Born June 18, 1927, in Chicago, he was the son of Norbert W. and Barbara (Hessel) von Holdt.
He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Loyola Academy with the class of 1945.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
After his marriage to Josephine Cecelia Psenicka on Oct. 15, 1949, at St. Josephâ€™s Catholic Church, they moved to Arlington Heights, Ill., moving to Columbia City in 1960.
In 1984 they moved to South Whitley, where he resided until his health began to fail and he moved near family in Columbia City.
He was a manager of Columbia City Die Mold for 30 years and Guardmark Security for 12 years.
Survivors include his three children, Robert von Holdt Jr. of Minocqua, Wisc., Kathy Kiester, Columbia City and James (Tina) von Holdt of Albion; one sister, Sister Mary Barbara Therese of Iowa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Josephine C. von Holdt, one son, David von Holdt and five brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, both at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City or after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church with Father Larry Cramer officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. von Holdtâ€™s memory to Masses or St. Paul of the Cross Faith In Action Building Fund.
