Rodger Smith, 67

Rodger C. Smith, age 67, of Columbia City, passed away at 5:32 a.m. Sunday Aug. 26, 2012, at his home.
Born on May 22, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif., he was the son of Rodger C. and Ruth L. (Gibson) Smith.
He had been a Columbia City resident since 1973. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in San Francisco, Calif. with the class of 1963.
On Oct. 18, 1969, he married Josephine A. Gonser at Fort Wayne. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran who served in Vietnam. He retired from Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, in 2001 with 33 years of service. “Rodger was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.”
Surviving relatives include his wife, Josephine A. Smith of Columbia City; three daughters, Molly J. (Jeremy) French of Binghamton, N.Y., Katy E. (Jacob) Baker of Brownsburg, Carey R. (Steven) Thomas of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; niece, Danielle Moreau of Ann Arbor, Mich. and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at the Smith home on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Arrangements by DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, IN.
Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Smith to Cancer Services of N.E. Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
