Roger Alan Anderson, retired SMSgt. for the U.S. Air Force, passed away March 6, 2014, in Omaha, Neb., due to complications from a short-term illness.
He was born Nov. 21, 1939, in Auburn, the son of Earl and Catharine (Blain) Anderson.
Roger was raised in Columbia City, and graduated Class of 1957 from Columbia City High School.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in January of 1958, and retired in June of 1981. During his military career he served stateside in Texas, Mississippi, California, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. His overseas tours included Newfoundland, Thailand, Vietnam, Johnston Island, Iceland, and Germany.
After his military career, Roger started his insurance agency with Farmers Insurance Group in August of 1981, and retired in August of 2007.
Roger married Jeanette Green April 26, 1969. Their wedding took place at Our Lady of Nebraska Chapel in St. Ceciliaâ€™s Cathedral in Omaha, Neb.
During their nearly 45 years of marriage, they created a memorable life with their family, Chris, Kevin, Mark and Tara, in Sacramento and Oklahoma City, ending up in Omaha where it all began.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; four children, Chris (Laurie) Anderson and Kevin Anderson of Sacramento, Calif., and Mark Anderson and Tara (Mitch) Compton of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Lindsey Anderson and (twins) Anderson and Everett Compton; sister-in-law, Mary Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, William and (identical twin) Robert; and nephews, Alan Lee Anderson and Craig Alan Anderson.
A visitation and prayer service was held Thursday at Braman Mortuary, Omaha, Neb., with Deacon Denny Dethlefs officiating.
The Memorial Mass will be held today at St. Stephen the Martyr Church in Omaha, Neb., with Father Mark McKercher officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Omaha. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church or Millard American Legion Post #374.
