Roger Lee Mantle, 66, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:13 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his home. Born June 6, 1946, in Wolf Lake, Noble County, he was the son of Solomon and Blanche D. (Worrick) Mantle.
He graduated from South Whitley High School with the class of 1964. He lived in Whitley, Noble and LaGrange counties prior to moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he lived for the past 13 years. He returned to Whitley County on Dec. 26, 2011.
On March 2, 1973, he married Geneva Moore Hixson in Huntertown. He worked for the LaGrange County Highway Department, drove truck for Christmanâ€™s Milk Haulers in Indiana and also drove a milk truck in Utah. He attended Collamer Christian Church. His memberships included Shrinerâ€™s Club of LaGrange, Antique Tractor Club and was a former member of LaGrange Lionâ€™s Club. He enjoyed collecting John Deer tractors.
He is survived by his daughter, Joan (Dennis) Tucker of Herriman, Utah; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Hixson of Fort Wayne; two sisters-in-law, Emmalou Mantle of Garrett and Sue Mantle of Columbia City; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Geneva and son, Kenneth Hixson.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor David Wagner of Collamer Christian Church officiating. The family has requested all guests dress casual for Rogerâ€™s funeral. Burial will be at South Whitley Cemetery.
