COLUMBIA CITY — Rose E. “Rosie” McClain, 88, of Columbia City, died at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at her home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1922 in Terre Haute, a daughter of Floyd and Pearl (Stultz) King.
She graduated from Otter Creek High School in North Terre Haute and completed her education at Ravenscroft Beauty College.
On June 5, 1941 she married William Woodruff Collyear.
They made their home in Indianapolis before moving to Columbia City in 1942. In 1943, they moved to a farm in Columbia Township.
Mr. Collyear died July 19, 1957.
In 1958 Rosie moved to South Whitley and opened Rosie’s Beauty Shoppe. In 1959 she married Robert J. McClain. Mr. McClain died in 1985. From 1995 until 2002 she was a greeter at Wal Mart.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 60 years.
Surviving relatives include her daughters, Sandra Altherr of Annapolis Md. and Kay Faris of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, Kathryn (Paul) Airgood, Todd (Michelle) Kennedy, Terylle (Bill) Austin, Leigh Austin, Caroline Austin, Aaron (Suzanne) Austin, Courtney (Jon) Holtzman, and Ashleigh (Todd) Smith; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Shaw and Lorene King.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Nolt Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being completed at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
