Ruth Whiteman, 87

Ruth Leon Whiteman, 87, died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at her home.
She was born May 11, 1923 in Kosciusko County, a child of Lela Mildred Atchison. Her formative years were spent in Pierceton where she completed her education in the Pierceton High School

On July 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” L. Whiteman and they made their home in Columbia City, then moved to Kimmell.

Mr. Whiteman died Jan. 8, 1981 and since 2003, she has made her home in Columbia City. She was a homemaker.

The surviving relatives include two sons, Henry Whiteman Jr. and Robert Dean Whiteman and a daughter, Linda L. Whiteman, all of Columbia City; and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in the Thorn Cemetery at Ormas. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
