Ryan Mayer advances to golf regionals: ’Busco, Col. City, Whitko compete in sectional action Friday morning

KENDALVILLE — Churubusco linkster Ryan Mayer is the lone Whitley County golfer to keep his season alive, after placing third in Friday’s golf sectional, advancing him to regionals.

Mayer fired an 80 on 18 holes at Noble Hawk in Kendallville. His score tied for third. In the play-off, Mayer birdied the first hole to win.
Mayer had an eagle, a birdie and four pars.

He will play in the regionals at Orchard Ridge Thursday at 8 a.m.
The second-best Churubusco golfer was Brad Martin, who shot a 91.
Beau Barkley finished with a 92, Brandon Norris had a 97 and Parker Conrad carded a 100.

Churubusco finished with 360 strokes. The Eagles placed 10th as a team out of 12 teams.

Columbia City and Whitko played at Stonehenge Saturday morning in the Warsaw regional.

Columbia City finished with a 361, good for sixth place out of 14 teams. State-ranked Warsaw won with a 323 in a close match with Triton.
Whitko came in 11th with a 399 score.

Columbia City’s Max Dryer was one stroke short of a trip to regionals with an 84.

“That’s just outstanding for a freshman,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said. “He overcame some injuries and had a great day.”

Trent Murphy was the Eagles’ second best with a 91. Dustin Parrett and Drew Benedict both finished with 93 strokes. Drew Burnsworth had a 94.

Whitko’s Danny Zawlocki led the Wildcats with an 89. Josh Busenbark and Colton LeTourneau both scored 96. Matt Hathaway posted a 120 and Cole Bechtold had a 121. Whitko scored a 401.
