Santford S. “Hank” McClellan Jr., 84, of Churubusco, died at 6:35 a.m. Monday at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne where he had been admitted Sunday, June 1.
He was born June 9, 1930, in Darke County, OH, a son of Santford S. and Rozella (Bugby) McClellan.
As a young boy, his family moved to Muncie. At the age of 12, his family moved to Deerfield and later Cromwell and finally Merriam. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
On Aug. 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Gandy. They made their home in Columbia City and later Merriam. They moved to Ari in 1962, and in 2000, to their home in Churubusco. Mrs. McClellan died Aug. 31, 2011.
In addition to general farming, he was employed at Newman Foundry for 17 years and retired from Zollner Pistons in 1995, with 27 years of service.
He was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel Church.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan (Bobbie) Osborn of Salem, S.C.; two granddaughters, Crystal (Andy) Rayburn and Crystine Davis; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Illa Gene Bolton of Gallup, N.M.; several nieces and nephews; and his cousin and caregiver, Brenda S. Saggars of Churubusco.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy McClellan; and a brother, D. Riley McClellan.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
The burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
