SATURDAY EVENTS: Here's a look at what's happening in the area

•Back to school - 8 a.m.
The Tools for School program, sponsored by the Whitley County Salvation Army, will be distributing goods for back to school at Eagle Quest Church located at 1120 N. Ind. 109 from 8 a.m. to noon. Each child will receive a backpack, school supplies and shoes for school.
Proof of Whitley County residency, birth certificate or another official record of children, and proof of income are needed.

• Car show - 8 a.m.
Junior Achievement Serving Whitley County board members will hold the 13th Annual Car, Truck, Motorcycle & Golf Cart Show today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitley County Courthouse Square. Judging will end at 11 a.m. and awards will be presented at 1 p.m.

•5k walk/run - 8 a.m.
The Whitley County Community Foundation is hosting a 5K run to benefit a local scholarship fund. The inTIMidatory 5K walk/run will be held today at 8 a.m., with registration starting at 7 a.m.
The race will be held at Columbia City High School, and all proceeds will benefit the Tim Hearld Memorial Scholarship fund.
The cost is $20 with a T-shirt or $15 without a T-shirt.

•Latch on - 10:30 a.m.
The Whitley County WIC Office will be hosting a Latch On for all breastfeeding moms in the community today at 10:30 a.m. in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.
This will take place at the Courthouse Square. World Breastfeeding Week is Aug. 1 through 7.

•Outdoor concert - 7 p.m.
Eighties rock band Eighty-one eighty-nine Rock will perform Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Whitley County Courthouse Square as part of the Columbia City Main Street Association’s outdoor concert.
