SCHAEFER SHINES: Schaefer to ‘bring it’ at state DYW program

February 14, 2014

Hannah Schaefer, Whitley County’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2014, is in Kokomo participating in that state program where she could be awarded a $25,000 scholarship.

KOKOMO — With crown atop her head and an arm full of flowers, Hannah Schaefer was named the 2014 Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) for Whitley County in September 2013.

The DYW program is a chance for senior girls to vie for scholarships and representation. After being given the DYW title, girls represent their counties, cities and communities in a variety of philanthropic options.
Schaefer’s designation means she has moved on to the state program in Kokomo, where she represents Whitley County.

A senior at Columbia City High School, Schaefer had her first stage appearance in Kokomo last night.
Anne Titus and Pam Thompson, both coordinators of the local program, attended the performance and both were “pleased” with what they saw.
“Anne and I thought Hannah did very well in the fitness routine and self expression,” said Thompson. “She was beautiful in her dress and looked so comfortable on stage.”
