COLUMBIA CITY — After a month of review, Whitley County Consolidated Schools’ Board of Trustees approved the 2014 budget at Monday night’s meeting.
WCCS held a public hearing at its last work session, Sept. 3, to allow the public to voice their opinions on the budget.
After no disputes from the public, WCCS Business Manager Tony Zickgraf recommended the board move forward with the budget — it was approved by unanimous vote.
The budget isn’t final, though, as the district doesn’t know exactly the amount of funds it will receive for the 2014 year.
Zickgraf said he proposed a higher budget, assuming that the district could receive less funds than anticipated and changes may need to be made.
“We’ve advertised the budget high since 1990,” Zickgraf told the board. “When the state makes the final budget decisions in February, the numbers will probably have to come down. Then we can decide where we need to cut.”
