SCHOOLS: Northern Heights update

January 27, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — In an ongoing series of presentations given to the Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of Trustees, known as “Celebrate Success,” teachers and administrators provide updates and outlines of how a particular school is doing.

Last week, Northern Heights Elementary School Principal Robert Hoke spoke of several programs and activities the school uses to help ensure success for both students and staff.

Communication between faculty, parents, students and community is heavily stressed at Northern Heights. Various forms of communication are used. The school has a Crisis Intervention Plan, daily events calendar, monthly newsletter, as well as video links on their website discussing appropriate behavior and procedures.

The staff recently received in-service training on instruction of writing skills by studying professional books on the subject and furthered those studies by bringing in Lynne Eckenbarger, a professional trainer.
The board will meet for its next work session Feb. 6.
