Sectional concludes season for local girls’ golf

   PIERCETON — The beginning of the postseason Saturday was the end of the season for Whitley County girls’ golf teams.
   Battling the rough and unforgiving links of Stonehenge Golf Club, Columbia City and Whitko were unable to advance anyone to the regional round.
   The Lady Eagles had three seniors bring their careers to an end. Olivia Western led them with round of 101.
   Western was only five strokes off of the last individual score to make it out of the sectional round.
   Rochester’s Lauren Daugherty was one of the three positions to move on without their teams with a 96.    Also moving on were Culver’s Breanna Newell and Triton’s Emily Duff with 89.
   Sathita Cheeranont took the individual sectional title with the only sub-80 round at 79 while her team also won the overall sectional crown over Warsaw 344-366. Cheeranont edged Warsaw’s Kayla Hutcherson by two strokes.
   Plymouth beat out Culver Academy by 10 strokes to be the third and final team to advance to the East Noble regional shooting 387.
   Columbia City’s day ended in fifth overall at 416.
   Lady Eagle junior Lauren Holloway’s 102 at the No. 4 position. Another junior, McKenzie Smith, finished the season at 104.
   Seniors Megan Yoder and Rachel Hazelet came in with identical rounds of 109.
   Whitko finished eighth out of nine teams.
   Taylor Snavley came away as the best Lady Wildcat of the day shooting 53-54 for a 18-hole score 107.
   Other Whitko scores were: Chloe Nestel 126, Taylor Pottenger 127, Emily Wiegold 140, Hannah Himes 143.
