SENTENCE GIVEN: Kirk receives 8 years

COLUMBIA CITY — An Avilla man received his sentence in Whitley County Circuit Court Monday for dealing in methamphetamine.Logan Kirk, 20, was sentenced to eight years in the Whitley County Jail, with four of those years to serve and four suspended for the Class B felony.

He will also be recommended for work release.Kirk pleaded guilty on Jan. 28 to the charge of dealing in methamphetamine. As part of a plea arrangement, he had three other charges dismissed.

The dismissed counts were: possession of two or more precursors to manufacture methamphetamine; possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.

Kirk was originally arrested on July 17, 2012 in Churubusco.
He and another individual were in the beginning stages of a meth lab and were making approximately one bottle per day (in a Gatorade bottle) of meth.

Brittany McConnehey had her sentence modified in Whitley County Circuit Court. McConnehey, of Columbia City, was sentenced in November 2011 to five years for reckless homicide, with three to serve on work release and two suspended.

Her sentence was modified so she would begin her probation period as of Monday.
