SEVERE WINTER WEATHER WATCH

January 3, 2014

(Jan. 3, 2014) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning which will be in effect from Saturday evening until Monday morning.

Meteorologist say there is an increasing chance for winter storms to impact the Whitley County and surrounding areas. A significant winter storm will likely hit the area beginning as early as Saturday evening and persisting through Sunday evening.

A cold front is expected to bring light snow Saturday night. However the greatest concern lies with low pressure that will develop rapidly and bring an expected 6 to 12 inches by Sunday night.

In addition, gusty winds are expected starting Sunday which will cause blowing and drifting snow. These conditions can create the potential for zero visibility at times.

As winds increase, colder air will arrive with wind chills dropping below zero late Sunday afternoon and into Sunday night. Expected temperature values will range from 10 to 20 below zero Sunday and 30 to 45 degrees below zero possible Monday through Tuesday.
