SEWER RATES: ‘This is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever encountered’ ­— Mayor Daniel

COLUMBIA CITY — The moment city officials have been worried about for several years may come to a head this year — a sewer rate increase.

With increasing requirements from the state and a multi-million dollar project in the works, Columbia City’s’ Common Council discussed how it will approach an inevitable rate increase for wastewater customers.

“As a mayor, this is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever encountered,” said Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel. “It stresses me out to dump this burden on our residents. Our hands are completely tied in this matter.”

Officials have been discussing the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) required project that the city has been burdened with — the longterm control plan.
