COLUMBIA CITY â€” A Churubusco man who was previously convicted of bomb charges has pleaded guilty in Whitley County Circuit Court to sexual misconduct charges.
Christopher Sargent, 23, accepted a plea agreement for the Class B felony in exchange for a sentence of 7.5 years, with an added 2.5 years for probation violation.
Sargentâ€™s first run-in with the police was in July 2011, when the Whitley County Sheriffâ€™s Department was investigating a possible illegal drug case and stumbled upon a bomb at Sargentâ€™s home he rented.
Fort Wayneâ€™s bomb squad was called to the house at 5830 N. Timberlane Dr. after police found the fused bomb inside a silver briefcase. Sargent could have faced federal charges for the bomb, but since police didnâ€™t feel he intended to hurt anyone with it, no federal charges were pressed.
Sargent was arrested July 22, 2012 for having sexual intercourse with a minor who was at least 14 but not 16 years of age. Sargent was 23 at the time of the arrest.
