CHURUBUSCO â The efforts to make Churubuscoâs schools more secure had an unexpected price tag, causing the Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees to slightly adjust plans for a major renovation project.
âIt was certainly not what we were hoping for,â said Greg Wehling, vice president of Moake Park, the architects coordinating SGCSâs $5 million-plus school rebuild.
According to Wehling, one item in the low bid by Fetters Construction came in nearly $100,000 higher than expected.
That project, a redesign of the high schoolâs secure entry, was removed by the board and will be re-bid.
The board agreed 3-2 to proceed with the remainder of the project to the tune of $4,775,100.
Up for re-bid will be the high schoolâs secure entry along with an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant locker room.
The overall project also includes a new cafeteria, a complete heating, ventilation and air conditioning and six new classrooms as well as making the entire facility handicapped accessible.
