SHERIFF’S DEPT. TO PROMOTE SHIFT SERGEANT: Will add 2 new deputies this year

July 10, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Sheriff’s department will have some personnel changes in the next week.

The department will be promoting a second-shift sergeant today and plans to choose two new deputies for hire on Monday.

The sergeant position opened up last month after former second-shift sergeant, Jason Spencer, was promoted to detective.

Three deputies put in for the position — Tony Helfrich, Cory Patrick and Scott Schmitt.

The candidates will go through a test on policies and procedures today, followed by an interview.

Sheriff Mark Hodges said a decision should be made by 4 p.m. today.
The selection process for two new deputies should be completed at Monday’s Merit Board meeting.
