Shirley A. Dear, 75, of Columbia City passed away at 7:49 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born April 24, 1936 in Whitley County, the daughter of Eldrige V. and Turah M. (Leininger) Brockup.
She attended Columbia City High School and worked at Chamberlin Products, South Whitley, Weatherhead, Ion Capacitor, Inc. and Alcoils all of Columbia City. However, she was best known as a great homemaker. She was married Jan. 13, 1953 in Etna Green to John Junior Dear.
She is survived by five children, Kevin L. Dear, Columbia City, Brian J. Dear, Fort Wayne, Juni K. (Brad) Krontz, Albion, Connie S. (Ed) Sims, South Whitley and Lisa A. (Steve) Burton, Columbia City. nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister, Sharon L. Vonholdt of Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gary A. Dear and brother, Elwood Brockup.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Tash officiating.
