Slain steps down as CC coach

   Monday marked two weeks until the first Indiana high school wrestling practice.
   That same day, the Columbia City program also found out its was without a head coach.
   At Whitley County Consolidated Schools board meeting Monday, two-year coach Jeff Slain had his resignation approved by school board members.
   Slain replaced former head coach Randy Kearby in 2008.
   Columbia City athletic director Geoff Penrod confirmed the resignation was turned in early last week by Slain.
   With the approval of Slain’s resignation, Columbia City will post the job opening for 10 days before starting the interview process to select a new head coach.
   According to Penrod, current assistant coach Thor Hodges and newly approved assistant Blain Culp will run the team until a new head coach is named.
   The board also accepted the resignation of assistant wrestling coach Kyler Kearby who accepted a head coaching position at Bluffton High School.
