Slick roads create traffic issues

January 8, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — Three days after Winter Storm Ion came to the area, road conditions were still poor in Whitley County Wednesday morning, as there were several reported crashes and slide-offs.

“People think they have traction and the road is glazed in ice,” Whitley County Sheriff Chief Deputy Marcus Gatton said. “It’s been so cold they can’t use salt to help break up ice.”

Gatton said the Sheriff’s Department had eight reported slide-offs from 4:30 to 8:30 a.m.
