CHURUBUSCO — Eight people turned out to interview for the two open school board seats for Smith-Green Community Schools Wednesday.
Gary Smith, who was originally elected to serve on the school board, resigned his position leaving two seats to be filled. President Kathy Petrie read Gary Smith’s letter of resignation to the assembly.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will be unable to perform my duties as a school board member,” Smith wrote. “I want you all to know I really was excited to serve and be a part of Smith-Green’s success.”
Dean Geiger, Charles Zumbrun, Nick Bianski and Gerri Johnson interviewed for the District 1 position. All but Bianski attended Churubusco Junior-Senior High School in their youth.
The district two had Mike Miller, Luke Gross, Tonya Stanford and Lloyd Haupricht vying for its position. Becky Rennaker had also been on the list, but failed to show up at the meeting.
The results of the interviews will be given at the next regular board meeting which will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m.
