Smith joins P&M staff

October 8, 2010

After 20 years of doing just about every job there is at a newspaper, veteran journalist Phil Smith has rejoined the staff of The Post & Mail.
Smith spent a couple of years at The Post & Mail in the early ’90s.
Smith’s main responsibilities will include coverage of city and county government, Whitley County Consolidated Schools and some police and fire coverage.
After leaving The Post & Mail in 1991, Smith worked in various capacities at four different newspapers and most recently worked in the pre-production press shop at Zimmer.
“I’ve done just about everything but run the press,” Smith said of his experience.
Smith has won several Hoosier State Press Association awards for his writing and in 1995 finished second nationwide in a National Society of Newspapers Columnists column writing contest.
“We’re happy to have someone with Phil’s experience and skills join our staff,” managing editor Ruth Stanley said.
Smith has four children, Elaina, Lindsey, Leslie and Alex and three grandchildren.
Smith started his duties at the newspaper Tuesday.
