Snow squalls usher in season at 2:09 p.m.

November 10, 2011

Break out the snowmobiles, sleds and snow shovels, the season's first snow blew into Whitley County at 2:09 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011.
With temperatures barely reaching 40 degrees today, a few snowflakes at 2 p.m. turned into brief but semi-heavy snow squalls throughout the afternoon. Snow was confirmed in Columbia City and South Whitley, and from radar reports undoubtedly was present throughout Whitley County.
No accumulation was reported or expected.
And the good news is (except for the most ardent snow lovers) today's cold wind and snow flurries will subside and a pleasant weekend with high temperatures in the mid- to upper-50s is predicted.
So it's probably safe to put away the snow gear . . . for now.
