SOUTH WHITLEY DEVELOPMENT: EDC looking at future

March 29, 2012

SOUTH WHITLEY — President Alan Tio and Community Development Coordinator Lori Shipman with the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) attended the South Whitley Town Council meeting Tuesday evening to present details on community development initiatives for re-development of the downtown area.

EDC’s role in the re-development of the downtown area is to work with the town of South Whitley — whether it’s job retention, activities, job creation activities, investments, business start-ups or responding to each need in the community as investors.

Tio said last year was a productive year with new business, expansions, community development, business networking and outreach, small business entrepreneurship, community investors and utility partners.

“Most of our activity is going to come from existing companies, people who are already here and businesses that are growing,” Tio said. “It takes a level of involvement to get things to come together and we just marked our 20th anniversary. The EDC will push to make sure we accomplish our goals.”
