SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Snowy Friday afternoon and evening will usher blustery drop in temperature

COLUMBIA CITY – A special weather statement by the National Weather Service was issued shortly before 6 a.m. Friday for Whitley and surrounding counties:

LIGHT SNOW EXPECTED DURING THE AFTERNOON RUSH HOUR INTO EARLY
EVENING HOURS...

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION TODAY...USHERING
IN A BLAST OF COLDER AIR THAT WILL PERSIST INTO THE WEEKEND. LIGHT
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG AND BEHIND THE FRONT WITH THE
MOST FAVORABLE TIME FRAME FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL BETWEEN 4 PM
AND 9 PM EST /3 PM AND 8 PM CST/. ACCUMULATIONS FROM A DUSTING TO
A FEW INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED.

MOTORISTS ARE CAUTIONED TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO GET HOME SAFELY
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AS ROADS MAY BECOME SLIPPERY DUE TO THE
NEW SNOWFALL.

NWS FORECAST THROUGH THURSDAY SHOWS COLD BEFORE WARMING BY NEXT THURSDAY:

Today: Snow, mainly after 1pm. High near 35. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tonight: Snow, mainly before 10pm. Low around 13. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of flurries after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 23. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 17.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 32.

Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 26.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 34.

Tuesday Night: A chance of drizzle and flurries. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 39.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Thursday: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.
