LIGONIER — A large and talented field met local cross county teams at the West Noble Invitational Saturday.
With the likes of the No. 7 hosting Lady Chargers and No. 20 West Noble boys’ squad, a stacked field had Columbia City and Whitko both posting high finishes.
The No. 22 Lady Eagles had its freshman-senior combination of Samantha Roush and Renee Menzie put them in third out of 24 teams.
Roush finished the best out of any Lady Eagle taking fourth at 19:29. Seven seconds behind her in fifth was Menzie.
Other Lady Eagle finishers were: Carlee Hearld 22nd (20:40), Brooke Werstler 29th (20:49), Erin Knepple 30th (20:51), Samantha Engle 38th (21:10), Heather Shew 52nd (21:42).
The Whitko boys’ team finished fourth out of 28 teams with three state-ranked teams ahead of them in No. 7 Snider, No. 19 Homestead and No. 20 West Noble.
The Wildcats were led by senior Brian Menzie who ran a time of 16:31 out of 195 runners.
Other ’Cat finishers were: Trapper Mize 19th (16:55), Brody Wilson 29th (17:13), Jude Stieglitz 40th (17:34), Dallas Asher 52nd (17:46), Trent Walther 81st (18:25), Chas Busz 126 (19:18).
The Columbia City boys’ team hung with a crowd of 28 teams finishing just one spot out of the top 10 in 11th overall.
Brendon Zoltek and Adam Bernhard continue to lead the Eagles. Zoltek finished 24th with a team-best time of 17:01. Bernhard was not far behind with a time of 17:32 good enough for 38th.
Other Eagle finishers were: Trevor Maggart 70th (18:11), Evan Harney 86th (18:31), David Potter 131st (19:28), Ben Fausey 134th (19:31), Connor Slavicek 158th (20:22).
The Whitko girls’ team finished 18th out of 24 teams.
Finishers were: Aubrey Smith 47th (21:29), Shandi Oswald 95th (23:18), Holly Frantz 120th (24:48), Christena Hoopingarner 122nd (24:54), Rylie Snep 131st (25:26), Becca Thomson 137th (26:09), Jocelyn Krull 155 (28:38).
Both schools will be back Saturday for the New Haven Invitational held at IPFW.
